Northwood Removals

The town

Five things about Northwood that change the job

None of these is exotic. All of them are the kind of thing a firm working the town for the first time finds out on the day, at your expense rather than theirs.

  • The houses are bigger than they look from the road

Northwood and Moor Park are largely inter-war detached, and the interesting volume is almost never in the rooms. Lofts converted and unconverted, cellars, garages and a garden building are all routine here and all routinely left off a survey done from a bedroom count.

  • Moor Park is a private estate, not just an address

Access, gates and roads there are managed rather than public, and arrangements need making in advance rather than explaining at a barrier. It is entirely workable and it is not something to discover on the morning.

  • The lanes north and west are narrow

Towards Batchworth, Harefield and the Chorleywood side the approach roads thin out and a large vehicle sometimes cannot turn. Where that is true the job becomes a shuttle, and that belongs in the quote rather than in a conversation on the day.

  • A lot of the rental stock is furnished

Which is why so many arrivals here are part-loads. If you have not seen the property yet, find out what is already in it before you decide what to bring — it removes most of a household from the list.

  • The useful windows follow the school year

Families on assignments here plan around school places rather than around leases, so the quiet moving periods are the long breaks and the busy ones are the edges of terms. Ask early if your dates are near an edge.

Why we survey

A room count does not describe a Northwood house

The housing here is largely inter-war detached, and the volume that catches people out is never in the bedrooms. It is the loft — converted or not — the cellar, the garage, the garden building and the run of built-in cupboards nobody counts.

The approach matters as much as the property. In the town a large vehicle is usually fine; on the lanes towards Batchworth, Harefield and Chorleywood it frequently is not, and where it is not the job becomes a shuttle. That belongs in the quote rather than in a conversation on the morning.

And Moor Park is a managed private estate rather than an ordinary road network, so access is arranged rather than assumed. It is completely workable; it simply needs somebody to have done it.

Where we work

Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park first, then out across the HA6 edges and into Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The other end can be anywhere — and on this site it frequently is not in the country at all.
