Northwood Removals

How long you're here

An indefinite stay

How longNo end date, or an end nobody has set

You are not counting. Either the assignment became permanent, or it was always going to be, or the family decided the town suits them and the job can sort itself out. This is the only one on the page that is simply a move.

What the term decides

  • Everything comes out of store. Households that have been on assignments frequently have things in three places — here, at a previous posting, and at a relative’s — and consolidating those is the actual job rather than the removal itself.

  • The property is usually bought rather than let, and in Northwood that tends to mean a large inter-war detached house with a loft, a cellar or a garage that a room count does not capture.

  • Nothing is provisional any more, which sounds freeing and is mostly work: the furniture that was good enough for a furnished let is not good enough for a house you own, and a great deal gets replaced in the same season as the move.

  • The date is yours for once. After a run of moves set by somebody else, an indefinite move is usually governed by a chain or a completion, which is a different kind of constraint and a much more familiar one.

What we do about it

  • Collect from more than one address in a single job, including from store

  • Survey the loft, the cellar and the garage as separate spaces rather than folding them into a room count

  • Take away what is being replaced, with the disposal paperwork

  • Work to a completion date and hold it provisionally while the chain settles

The trap

Forgetting what is still in store somewhere else. Consolidate it into this move rather than paying to keep it where it is for another year.

Here on an indefinite stay?

A short attachment, a full posting, indefinitely, or not at all any more. That one answer gets us further than a room count does, and it is the first thing we will ask.
