Questions
Everything we get asked
Grouped so you can go straight to the part that applies. If yours is not here, ask it and we will answer properly.
Assignments and postings
We are only here for a short attachment. Is it worth bringing anything?
Usually much less than people assume. A great deal of the rental stock around Northwood is furnished or serviced, which takes beds, sofas, wardrobes, white goods and most of the kitchen off the list before anybody packs a box.
What is worth bringing is clothes, papers, a workspace and whatever makes a let feel like somewhere you live. The rest is cheaper stored than carried twice.
Can you hold things in store while we are posted here?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Goods go in under one sealed inventory, they stay sealed, and they come out when there is somewhere to deliver them to.
The arrangement that most often goes wrong is a relative’s garage. It is free until the relative moves, the roof leaks or the relationship gets complicated, and then it is not.
Do you work with employers or relocation agents?
We will deal directly with whoever is coordinating your move — a relocation agent, an HR or welfare contact, or a family member — as long as you have told us in writing who they are and what they are authorised to agree.
We should be clear that we hold no official status, accreditation or approved-supplier relationship with any employer or institution, and we will not imply otherwise. We are a removals firm that understands how these moves work.
Our return date is not fixed yet.
That is normal and it is not a problem. We hold provisional dates at no cost and move them as often as they need moving, which on assignment moves is frequently several times.
Departures and shipping
Part of our load is going abroad and part is staying.
That is the standard departure shape and it is why we do the three-way split at the survey rather than on the day. Going with you, going into store, and going nowhere are three different destinations that get loaded in three different ways.
Anything crossing a border is packed to export standard with a proper inventory, and that has to be decided before the van rather than after.
Do you handle the shipping itself?
We pack, inventory and deliver to the freight forwarder or shipper handling your consignment, and we will coordinate directly with them on timings and documentation.
Where a move is being arranged through an employer’s own logistics provider, we work to their requirements rather than around them.
What needs to happen to the property when we leave?
If it is let, the standard is set out in your tenancy and there will be an inventory and a check-out. If it is owned, the standard is whatever you have agreed with a buyer or an incoming tenant.
Either way we clear it, sweep it, take our own packaging away and provide disposal paperwork for anything we have taken for that purpose.
Northwood and around
Which areas do you cover?
Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park first, then Eastcote, Ruislip, Pinner, Hatch End, Rickmansworth, Batchworth, Carpenders Park, Harefield, Denham and the Chorleywood and Watford edges.
The other end can be anywhere, and on this site it frequently is not in the country.
We are in Moor Park. Is access different?
Yes. Moor Park is a managed private estate rather than an ordinary public road network, so access and vehicle arrangements are made in advance rather than negotiated at a gate.
It is completely workable. It simply needs arranging, and we will do that if you tell us at the enquiry stage.
Can a large van get to our house?
In the town, almost always. On the lanes towards Batchworth, Harefield and Chorleywood, sometimes not — and where a large vehicle cannot turn or stand, we run a shuttle with a smaller one.
We establish that at the survey and price it in, because finding out with a loaded vehicle is how a quote stops being a quote.
Practical
Do you pack?
A full pack, a part pack of the fragile and awkward things only, or materials dropped off. For a departure with a shipment in it, a full pack of the shipped portion is usually the sensible choice, because export packing is a different standard from domestic.
What will you not carry?
Cash, jewellery, deeds, passports and similar valuables; controlled drugs; firearms and ammunition; fuels, gas bottles, fireworks and other hazardous goods; perishable food; plants that may carry pests; and living animals.
For anything crossing a border there are further restrictions set by the destination rather than by us, and those need checking well before the day.
How much notice do you need?
Less than most people expect for a domestic leg. More for anything involving a shipment, a Moor Park access arrangement or a school-holiday window, because those depend on other people’s availability.

A short attachment, a full posting, indefinitely, or not at all any more. That one answer gets us further than a room count does, and it is the first thing we will ask.
